Last weekend M and I met up in Charleston to celebrate the wedding of two of our dear friends from college! It was such a perfect weekend indulging in fresh seafood, catching up with plenty of friends we hadn’t seen in too long and wandering around one of my favorite cities. On Friday we found a perfect hidden patio bar at Blind Tiger for drinks before delicious oysters and tacos at Pearlz. Saturday was filled with sunshine, a rooftop lunch and a trek past all our favorite spots in the Charleston before heading to the wedding. The ceremony was held at the Citadel chapel, where the bride’s parents had been married almost exactly 30 years ago. Following the picture perfect ceremony, we head to the gorgeous Belmond Charleston Place hotel to dance the night away. We wrapped up the weekend with a quick brunch at my long time favorite spot, Red Drum in Mount Pleasant, before heading to the airport. I seriously can not stress enough how delicious the brunch steak + eggs is there, and I have to add the rum cake to my list of favorites after this trip. All the sunshine, friends and food did my soul well and Charleston provided the perfect backdrop for the first weekend of summer. Now I’m pumped for the busy wedding season ahead!

For Saturday’s trek around the city, I’m wearing:

dress  //  sunglasses  //  tote  //  sandals {old, love these}

What’s your favorite spot in Charleston?

One Year Celebration + Hummingbird Cake

one year

Today is the one year anniversary of my little corner of the internet here. It’s been such a fun experience to share with you all here on the blog and I’ve learned quite a bit along the way. I’m looking forward to another year full of style, travel and delicious food to inspire you in the crazy, fabulous, pazzesco life!  I’m learning more all the time about photography and the blogging world in order to improve the content I share here. Thanks for following along during the first year and I can’t wait to continue to share with you in the next year!

The fun thing about my blog’s anniversary is that it also falls on my actual birthday! To celebrate, I whipped up a favorite spring treat – Hummingbird Cake. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Hummingbird Cake is a southern favorite that is essentially the sweet dessert version of banana bread, topped with cream cheese frosting. The cake draws on the flavors of bananas and pineapples, plus the added crunch of pecans. Find the recipes I used at the bottom of the post:

I used this hummingbird cake recipe from Southern Living and this classic cream cheese frosting recipe.

Here’s to year number two!

Office Gallery Wall

office decor

Ok so I don’t have the luxury of a separate home office space, but my bedroom does have the perfect little nook to fit a desk and comfy chair. I picked up this desk and chair from Target right when we moved into the apartment. Besides that, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that its taken me until now to get everything else put together. I finally made the trip out to IKEA to pick up more frames and complete the gallery wall. I’ve had this trusty glass calendar since I started college {one of my very favorite high school graduation gifts} and it’s been hanging all by itself for almost a year now. I finally put together the gallery wall around it using some inexpensive art finds I already had, including a cheap cactus print, two postcards from the Dallas Museum of Art, a favorite cocktail calendar and a dream catcher that has been protecting my bed for years. Acrylic desk organizers and an assortment of glass jars offer storage while a teal lamp shade brings in a pop of color. Gallery walls are one of my favorite ways to fill wall space without having to spend too much money. I’ve collected some of my favorite inexpensive art sources that are perfect for filling your gallery wall at the bottom of the post!
